REVIEW: MOVIE - 9TH COMPANY

9th Company is a Russian/Finnish made movie recently released in those countries. It is based on a true story about the 9th company from the 351st Guards Regiment of the Russian Army as they tried holding a hilltop area in Afganistan against Taliban fighters. Further research into this movie shows it botched up a few of the facts but otherwise I feel it is very well done. It shows a bit of the training and huge amount of modern combat in a really rough area of the world by 2 equally rough opponents.

I enjoyed seeing all the russian armour throughout and the array of russian firearms in use. I also was intrigued by the constant use of the word "mate" although I think this was more likely a result of the subtitling.

Anyway, here is the link to the youtube member with the entire movie split into 13 parts.

The Taliban didn't come into being until after the Soviets were pushed out of Afghanistan. It was just various groups of Mujihadeen.

That's right. The Taliban as we know it in the west was not around but individual groups and groups of groups who were the preliminary movements that became the Taliban or The Students of Islamic Knowledge Movement.
